Cabo De Rama Fort: History
Cabo De Rama Fort has a rich history and religious significance attached to it. It is believed that Lord Rama, Goddess Sita and Lord Lakshman resided at this venue during their 14 years of exile from Ayodhya. This is also how the fort got its name. The local Soonda rulers built the fort later and ruled from here.

In 1763, Cabo De Rama Fort was taken over by Portuguese rulers who were taken by the unique landscape of the area and the surrounding Arabian Sea. The Portuguese then restored and modified the fort, later used as a prison and military base.
The Portuguese left their mark on the fort by building a church dedicated to St. Anthony inside the fort premises.
Cabo De Rama Fort: Architecture

Made with laterite and spread over a massive area of 180,000 sq. m., Cabo De Rama Fort remains in ruins, but several aspects have stood the test of time. The entrance bridge, iron bastions, and cannons used to stop sea enemies are a few attractions here. The cannons even have the year of their manufacturing engraved on them.
The fort also has two ponds, one containing hot water and the other containing cold water. These ponds are reminiscent of Hindu architecture prevalent during the Soonda rule and were used for bathing or other special rituals.
On the right side of the fort, you can also visit the watchtower used to keep a watch on the coastline. The Portuguese rulers also built military barracks, 21 cannons, command posts and quarters for official meetings, which you can explore here.
